365 day 200

The hallway… I was surprisingly quite sore when I got up this morning. I guess the work of the last 2 days really hit me. I felt the back again, and I felt the time spent on my knees. I did manage to strip the carpet & padding out of the upstairs hallway this afternoon, and I uncovered a very bad dip in the hall by my bedroom. I have to figure out the best…

365 Day 199

Office is done! I confess, I skipped yesterday for posting. The back was achy most of the morning, so I relaxed some more. I got going after lunchtime and really wanted to get the office done yesterday. I came close, although I was up until 2AM. There were some fine trims at the door that needed to be done to the flooring, and I didn’t feel like risking anything by working on the table saw…

365 Day 197 (part 1)

Office redo has begun  My main computer is offline until the flooring is done and I can get things back together. I took a before photo today but will upload it along with a little more info tomorrow.  I’m doing this from my phone tonite.  I can do more from my laptop, but I’m too tired tonight.

365 Day 196

Checking out stairs

Studying Stairs I took it easy most of today to try to let the back heal a little. After researching online, I think I pulled a section in the latissimus dorsi or erector spinae in the middle of the left side of my back. It’s amazing what little movements can cause that spot to hurt, so I didn’t do much lifting at all today and basically stopped any physical flooring prep work. I did spend…

365 Day 195

Room # 2 We got the master bedroom pretty much done today. I held off on the closets since I want to redo those anyway. The builder put wooden shelves & rods in, and they’re not the most convenient or provide the best use of space. We just took the flooring to the closet doors for now. Unfortunately, I think I strained my left oblique pretty good today. I guess I overdid it trying to…

365 Day 194

One room finished! I think it’s accurate to say you learn a lot on the first room when doing flooring yourself. I did recruit some help to try to get through this faster. I called on the services of a good friend’s husband who’s done lots of this kind of work before. He was a godsend today. Yes, I probably could have gotten through it, but it would have taken longer, and I would probably…

365 day 193

Beginning the flooring replacement I’m too tired to write much tonight, but I did get started on redoing the flooring  upstairs. I got everything moved out of the guest bedroom and got the old carpeting removed and the subfloor cleaned & prepped I hope. I did find one thing I was afraid I’d find in this older house. The subfloor isn’t as level as desired for laminate type flooring. I found a notable dip in one…

365 project: Catching up part 4

The last few days… Over the last few weeks, I’ve been getting a bunch of old stuff cleaned out in preparation for my new desk. Getting rid of that old desk with its 3 filing drawers which I used heavily meant I had to replace that functionality. That’s when I got the lateral file I posted about earlier. In the process of getting ready for the great desk replacement, I knew I had to free…

365 project: Catching up – part 3

More from early July Day 187, July 5: Alas, my quest for my new desk is complete. I got my adjustable sit/stand desk from Ikea and got it put together and setup in my office. I really wanted to birch top, and my sister sent me a note saying it was on sale for an additional 15% off, so I splurged and got it. Putting it together wasn’t too hard, especially while laughing through “Snakes…

365 project: Catching up – part 2

First photos of July Here are some more photos taken early in the month of July. July 1 – MIA…. no photo. 🙁 Day 184, July 2nd: First potatoes from the garden! I got a good harvest of the first round of new potatoes along with a few yukon gold. These were ones the damn moles didn’t get. I’ve since harvested a few more (and need to make dishes with them), but this was the first…
